WhatsApp Advanced Chat Privacy blocks exports and boosts control

Ana sayfa / News

WhatsApp has introduced a new feature called Advanced Chat Privacy, designed to enhance user privacy by preventing the export of chat histories and the automatic downloading of shared media like photos and videos. This update aims to keep conversations within the app and reduce the risk of sensitive information being shared externally.

With Advanced Chat Privacy enabled, users can block recipients from exporting chats to external platforms such as email or notes apps. This feature applies to both individual and group chats, ensuring that conversations remain confined to WhatsApp. While it doesn’t prevent manual copying or screenshots, it adds a layer of protection against unintended data sharing.

Meta's Ray-Ban smart glasses now feature live translation and expanded AI capabilities, enhancing real-time communication and user interaction.

The new setting also disables automatic downloading of photos and videos in chats. Users will need to manually download media they wish to save, providing greater control over what is stored on their devices. This change helps prevent the accumulation of unwanted media and enhances overall privacy.

Activating Advanced Chat Privacy disables the use of Meta AI within chats. Meta AI currently allows users to ask questions and generate images based on chat messages. Disabling this feature ensures that chat content is not used for AI processing, aligning with the goal of keeping conversations private.

WhatsApp suggests that this feature is particularly useful for group chats involving participants who may not know each other well but require confidentiality. By limiting exports and downloads, group administrators can maintain a layer of trust and reduce the risk of leaks.

The Advanced Chat Privacy feature is rolling out globally in the latest WhatsApp update. Users can enable it by tapping the name of a chat and selecting “Advanced Chat Privacy” from the settings menu. The feature is available on both Android and iOS devices and applies per chat, allowing users to customize their privacy settings for each conversation.

WhatsApp has indicated that this is the first iteration of the Advanced Chat Privacy feature, with plans to introduce additional protections in future updates. As the platform continues to prioritize user privacy, more tools and settings are expected to be developed to give users greater control over their conversations.
